CORONADO PARK RENOVATION

"For those of you just getting started, a little history. About four years ago, Coronado received a grant for approximately $100,000 for park improvements. Although it sounds like a lot, it's really just a drop in the bucket. We were able to improve the physical plant (mostly electrical work, which you can't see), plant some trees, put some extra benches in, pave the basketball and tennis courts and complete several other improvements. The Parks department also received a grant to restore the small brick building (originally the waterworks, now used for storage) at the northwest edge of the park. In 2006, the voters approved $1.3 million in bond funds for additional park improvements. The Parks Dept is anxious to hear the neighborhood's thoughts on what these improvements should include. However, there are some items on the table which are more or less written in stone. The bathrooms at the park need to be replaced. Additionally, the "kiddy area" at the southern end of the park needs new equipment and shade cover, but does not necessarily need to stay in the same place."
